Spend your Saturday outside of Seoul, enjoying the green countryside and relaxing atmosphere of the area around Cheong-Pyeong Lake. Today's excursion will be quite leisurely, and offers a choice of activities; we therefore recommend this as an excursion for the whole family. We will start off with a one-hour bus ride from Seoul to the site of the imposing Cheong-Pyeong Dam, southeast of Chuncheon. At the ferry terminal, alongside the dam, we'll board a modern, comfortable flat-bottomed boat which will take us approximately 20 km to our destination, called Wang-Teo Cabin. Our journey takes us across the lake, into the waters of the north Han River and then into the Hongcheon river. Along the route, we will pass rustic villages, cliffs, turret-shaped peaks and interesting rock formations. This is also a great location to observe the local fauna, particularly the white egrets, which are usually seen in great quantity here. We should arrive at Wang-Teo Cabin at around 11:30, in time to stretch our legs before sitting down to a BBQ lunch and various side dishes, enjoyed in a most attractive natural setting, far from the maddening crowds of Seoul. After lunch, there will be a few hours of free time to rest, swim (don't forget appropriate attire), or hike -- there is a comfortable one-and-a-half hour route (round trip) which takes you through the quiet countryside of villages, small farms, and relaxing, rural scenery to the grave site and shrine of Ui-Am, a famous patriot. However you choose to spend your afternoon, we will all board the boat at 4:30 p.m. for the trip back to Seoul. The bus will leave at 8:00 a.m. from the (Korean) Yongsan Post Office (Subway line number 4, blue line, Sinyongsan Station #429 exit 1), and we should get back to Seoul at around 7:30 p.m. Cost of the excursion is W82,000 for members and W97,000 for non-members and includes TRANSPORTATION (bus and boat) and LUNCH. OTHER INCIDENTALS ARE AT THE EXPENSE OF EXCURSION PARTICIPANTS. |
